Grandmas, Be Warned!

Does Adam Sandler hate elders? That was my impression while watching “You Don't Mess with the Zohan”. In this comedy, Sandler plays Zohan Dvir, an Israeli counter terrorist army commando who fakes his own death in able to pursue his dream of becoming a hairstylist. Success comes from unexpected places, which in Zohan's case, grandmas become his first and most loyal customers.

There's no need for a movie essay to deconstruct this film, as Sandler likes to have fun at the expense of someone or some people. In this case, it's the grannies who want a hairstyle that will make them younger and more vibrant; after getting their salon treatment, Zohan shows them that cutting hair isn't the only thing he's good at.

Just like any aging Hollywood actor, Sandler wants to show fans and non-fans alike that he's still virile in his 40s. The film has lots of crotch and butt shots, which made me wonder if the comedian secretly yearns to be a porn actor. Perhaps his next film must be called “Sands Wants to Make a Porno”.

Make no mistake: “You Don't Mess with the Zohan” isn't a waste of time. Sandler still knows how to tickle the moviegoers' funny bone. I don't think he's worried about what a film student will write about him in his essay; it's rather which people he likes to make fun of next time. And let's not forget if he'll go the full monty in his next project.
